Dedicated elected officials are committed to continually improving the quality of life in Madison, Hanover, and Jefferson County. Madison is classified as a Class 3 City under Indiana law and city elected officials include a full-time Mayor and seven elected Council Members. City law enforcement includes 27 sworn officers, and a detective section. The city operates six volunteer fire departments with more than 200 volunteers. City Hall is located downtown at the corner of Main and West Streets.
Hanover is governed by a five member town board and serviced by a volunteer fire company with more than 40 members.
Jefferson County is governed by three County Commissioners and seven members of the County Council. The Sheriff's office includes twelve sworn officers. More than 200 firefighters volunteer at eight different stations located equal distances throughout the county. The County Courthouse is located in historic Madison at the corner of Jefferson and Main.
